December 15: We Have a Foundation!

So it's a little late, I know. But between Christmas shopping, packing, wrapping and Holiday travel, this post got written but not published. So here it is, the biggest news yet... we have a foundation!!

This is by far the biggest change we’ve seen, and we had no idea it had come that far yet! Upon scheduling our "pre-construction" meeting (finally) with the Superintendent of the contracting company who’d be building our house, our sales manager said “so it’s been awhile since you’ve seen the place, right?” I said “yes, I was the last one out there a few weeks ago (maybe even a month), and all I saw was piles of dirt.” He then said “well, you’ll be so surprised then! Lots has happened. I’ll send you a text with a picture this afternoon.” And he wasn’t kidding!

I can’t tell you the excitement that I felt. I was literally jumping for joy when I saw that picture come through with the caption “You have a Foundation!” It’s actually  happening. It’s not just a figment of our imagination (or our bank accounts). That’s the start of our home we’ll be living in for the next 20 years… it’s so exciting, exhilarating, and scary at the same time.

Scary? Yeah. You better believe it. I think adulthood hits every one at a different point in their lives, and for me it’s hitting right about now. Or maybe when I handed over that earnest money deposit and signed the contract for our home... No. It’s when you start checking the mortgage rates every day, making sure your credit score stays where you need it to be and watch every.single.penny that’s spent.

But more on budget, money and all that fun stuff soon… let’s just get through the holiday and then I’ll drown my sorrows in *cheap* wine and Ramen noodles.

We'll be stopping by the house this Sunday, and by then it should be framed, if it doesn't already have a roof! How cool is that?! I'll check in next week. Until then... Have a happy and safe New Year's Eve! See you in 2014!!

See you at the Corner,

Krista

The Worst Kind of Snow Day

On any other day, in any other year, I'd be thrilled that we're getting snow. I don't get off work for Snow Days because we have the option to telecommute, but that's not what I'm talking about. I love working from home, especially when it's snowing outside!

What I'm not so happy about is the fact that our house doesn't get built when it snows. Period. There's a commercial building being built outside of our current apartment and they've stopped all production today, so that makes me cringe. One day lost to snow could means days added on to our completion date. Days. Not just one day. Days. We are so anxious to get into our house and we can't stand to lose these days!! And it's only the beginning of winter here in DC. To have two snow days this early in the season is abnormal, so I hope that sweet Mother Nature gets this out of her system now so we can have smooth sailing until March!

Unfortunately, that's about it for now. I hope to have more news soon as we have our "pre-construction" meeting soon. And the reason for the quotation marks is that they've already begun construction, but this meeting is really just for us to meet the Superintendent that will be building our house, ask any questions we have for him, etc. Can't wait to report back!

As for now, it's time to snuggle up with a bowl of chili and cornbread made by my sweet husband, and continue typing away at work.

See you at the corner,
Krista

New Year's Goal

Ok, so now that Thanksgiving is over and the leftovers have all been eaten (actually, that's not true, we still have some in our fridge that we plan on eating this week), it's time to get back on track with my goal for Dec. 31 - or the goal that I set for myself about two weeks ago...

I want to be able to do 10 push ups... REAL push ups. Not on my knees, or on a counter or table or chairs. Real, wo-manly, awesome push ups. You're probably thinking "that's not a lot of push ups, Krista." Well, you're right, it's not, but it's a lot for me.

I exercise a few times a week, cardio, bodyweight exercises; I'd consider myself in pretty good shape. I wanted to get into CrossFit but it's just not going to fit the budget so I take what I learned at booty (yes, bootY) camp I did earlier this year before the wedding, and do those exercises often. But, I just can't seem to perfect push ups, and it might just run in the family.

Here are a couple ways I'm trying to improve:
~ at least 20 push ups on a bench in the gym  (in rounds)
~ 5-10 "girl" push ups (on my knees)
~ 5 REAL push ups

Do you have any good tips? Have you checked back in with your Resolutions you set for yourself at the beginning of 2013? Thinking about your goals for 2014 yet? How do you stay on track?!

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! Keep reaching for those goals!

See you at the corner,
Krista
